There are very few people who can look back on their lives and not see something they wish they had not done or that they had done differently. Fortunately, people who make mistakes have the ability to make positive changes in their lives in order to prevent repeating those mistakes. Despite making positive changes, others will often look on a person’s past mistakes and assume that he or she is destined to repeat them. One Minnesota man is currently held because of a suspected DWI based on his past history.
Police say they received reports regarding a person who has since been identified as a 44-year-old man one. The man was allegedly driving erratically and was accused of almost hitting pedestrians with his vehicle. It is unclear if the pedestrians were in the street or on a sidewalk at the time he allegedly almost struck them.
Police say that the man refused to stop after entering a parking lot, instead parking in a parking garage. At that time, they say he refused to exit his car. According to reports, he was suicidal and issuing threats, and he allegedly backed into a cruiser twice before police say they subdued him with a Taser. Once at the jail, he allegedly refused a DUI test, but he is being held on DWI suspicion because of a past arrest. He is also charged with assault, reckless driving and making threats.
In almost all situations, there are typically two sides to every story. Simply reading the police report of an incident could leave out significant pieces of pertinent information. Fortunately, anyone facing DWI charges in Minnesota has the right to an attorney who can help ensure that the accused is treated fairly by the legal system. In all cases, those accused are considered innocent until — and only if — prosecutors are able to provide sufficient evidence to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
