Suspected domestic violence case leads to charges in Minnesota

On Behalf of | Nov 20, 2015 | Criminal Defense

A recent incident in Minnesota led to the arrest of a man after he was accused of shooting a woman. Reports are referring to the event as a domestic violence situation, but it is unclear what may have motivated the purported shooting. Nonetheless, the man was taken into custody, and he will likely want to determine the best way to handle his legal case.

Reportedly, the 49-year-old woman was outside of an American Legion building around 9 p.m. when she apparently suffered a gunshot wound. Authorities were alerted to the incident, and the woman was taken to an area hospital where she later succumbed to the wound and was declared dead. Residents in the area expressed their shock that such an event could occur in their neighborhood.

It was unclear how authorities came to suspect the 51-year-old man, but he was taken into custody. Reports stated that the man and the woman allegedly knew each other. Though it was speculated that the incident was in relation to domestic violence, such allegations were not leveled against the man. However, he has been charged with second-degree intentional homicide .

It remains to be seen whether the alleged shooting was in fact domestic violence, but regardless, the man is still facing serious charges. He will likely wish to defend against such allegations, and exploring his legal options may allow him to make better informed decisions as his case moves forward. Information on Minnesota criminal proceedings relating to his legal predicament may also prove valuable as he works to build his case.
