Minnesota teen facing murder charge after alleged gun crime

On Behalf of | Jul 17, 2015 | Violent Crimes

When an alleged criminal event results in the death of an individual, parties suspected of having involvement in the situation could face serious charges. An alleged gun crime could lead to accused parties desiring a better understanding of the legal proceedings that they will likely need to navigate. Luckily, there is information and assistance available for individuals who have been charged in such cases.

It was recently reported that an 18-year-old Minnesota man was taken into custody after allegedly shooting his friend. The reported incident began when the teen and his friend were apparently arguing in an apartment about the teen’s girlfriend. The two individuals then reportedly began a physical fight before the teen purportedly left the apartment for a few minutes. When he returned, he allegedly shot the other individual in the head.

Authorities arrived at the scene, and the teen allegedly stated that he shot the other individual. He reportedly also told authorities to help his friend. At this time, the teen is facing murder charges, and the prosecution is apparently attempting to have the charge filed as first degree murder. First degree murder could result in a life sentence in jail if a conviction takes place.

In order to combat the charges that could be leveled against him, the teen will likely want to create a criminal defense. Information on the Minnesota criminal process relating to gun crime may help him gain a better understanding of the legal proceedings he will likely face. In addition to that information, he may also want to consult with his legal counsel in order to determine what defensive avenues may be in his best interest.
