Minnesota Supreme Court candidate on trial for DUI

Everyone make mistakes, no matter our level of education, type of employment or socioeconomic standing. Even those among us who have risen to the highest levels within our career field or hold positions of high social standing are not perfect. When an error in judgment is made, it is often the way that we respond that defines the "type" of person that we are. An example is found in the case of a Minnesota attorney who is in the running for a seat on the state's Supreme Court as she battles a DUI charge.

The charge stems from a 2013 traffic stop in Rosemount. The attorney refused to take a blood-alcohol test at the time, and was charged under suspicion of DUI. She maintains that she was not driving while under the influence, and will present a witness at the upcoming trial to support that claim.

This May, the attorney was endorsed by the Republican Party to run against the incumbent who currently holds the Minnesota Supreme Court seat. She has since had a falling out with the party over these charges. It is unclear to what extent the criminal proceedings against her might have on her ability to win in the upcoming election.

As her case moves forward, this Minnesota attorney is planning to fight the DUI charges against her. In doing so, she is also hoping to move forward in her bid to obtain a seat on the state's Supreme Court. Many across the state will watch to see if she is able to move beyond her recent legal troubles to continue her career path and maintain the social standing she has worked so hard to achieve.
