One woman in Minnesota may be exploring her legal options after recently being taken into custody. Reports stated that the woman was allegedly driving a vehicle when a police officer noted that her vehicle was traveling faster than surrounding traffic. With a radar gun, the officer reportedly clocked the vehicle at 120 mph. As a result, a pursuit was initiated and ended in a DWI arrest.
After six miles, the officer was apparently able to stop the vehicle. It was noted that six miles is a relatively long distance in terms of a pursuit as officers are apparently able to catch up to vehicles much more quickly in typical situations. After stopping, the woman driving the vehicle allegedly told the police that she had been drinking and that she was on her way home.
She presumably submitted to a breath test as another officer stated that her blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit. However, a specific percentage was not given in the report. Nonetheless, the woman was taken into custody and then later released. She is currently facing charges for DWI, though it was not clear whether formal charges had been filed.
If formal charges for DWI are leveled against her, the woman will want to focus on presenting a criminal defense. Taking such action could allow her to work toward an agreeable outcome. Information on Minnesota criminal procedures relating to her situation may help her better understand her predicament as well as learn more about her legal options. She may also wish to consult with her legal counsel in order to determine what strategies could best suit her specific circumstances.
