You are innocent until proven guilty

On Behalf of | Mar 31, 2017 | Sex Crimes

Sexually-based crimes draw an immediate and incendiary reaction from people who are not involved or attached to the case. This is because there is a stigma attached to sex crime cases that will likely never go away. These are emotionally-charged cases that bring out angry reactions, and to a certain extent, it is understandable. However, no matter the crime in question, the person accused of committing the offense deserves a fair trial, and he or she is presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

It would seem that many in the public sphere would change that last line to read: “he or she is guilty until proven otherwise.” Thankfully, that isn’t how our justice system works.

There are many different charges that fall under the “sex crime” umbrella, and each of them are serious matters that need to be properly addressed by the accused. Without legal help, the person accused of the crime runs the risk of violating his or her own rights and thus putting themselves in a highly vulnerable legal position. Whether you are dealing with sexual assault charges, internet-related offenses, prostitution, rape or lewdness, all of these charges can lead to very severe punishment and consequences.

We at the Mankey Law Office in Minneapolis, Minnesota has an established reputation as defenders of those who have been accused of sex crimes. We will stand up for your rights and do everything in our power to help you through this difficult time. Everyone deserves a fair and unbiased trial, no matter the charge in question.
